Avondale PTA Meeting Minutes

Meeting was called to order at 8:14 am by Meg Bruck-Krawitz.
2013/2014 PTA Board Members were introduced:
President- Meg Bruck-Krawitz
Treasurer- Brandon Harris
Secretary- Peggy Biga
Membership Chair- Deidre Williams
Program Chair- Valencia King
Reflections Chair- Elizabeth Hughey
We still have open PTA board positions to fill: Communications Officer, Fundraising Chair. Latoya Struggs, Bethanne Hill, and Rebecca Rodamar suggested that they would be willing to share workload.
PTA member Laura Anderson discussed Art in Avondale Park on October 12, 2013 and the PTA agreed to host a bake sale from 9 am – 11 am. Volunteers are needed.
Brandon Harris, PTA Treasurer, updated the PTA on the Annual Holiday Card Program that Ms. Mackin has already begun working with the kids on. This year, we will print 300 packs of card to add to the 300 packs we have from last year. The PTA raised $1,800 for arts education from this fundraiser in 2012/2013. Some of this money will pay for ArtPlay programming at AES.
Santa’s Gift Shop will be December 16-20, 2013.
Avondale United Methodist Church is holding their annual Avondale cleanup day 10/13/13 and will be doing some work at AES.
PTA Membership Drive Cookout is scheduled for 10/14/14 from 5-6:30 pm. Free food and games to AES families.
Brandon Harris gave the treasurer’s report. All treasurer’s reports are located on the PTA facebook google docs site.
Membership report: Valencia reported a total new membership of 39 members, with 5 AES teachers. Deidre will now be working with membership.
PTA testimonies were given by two students, a parent, and a teacher. Membership drive opportunities were discussed, with incentives for teachers to join.
Meg will speak to the AES faculty on 10/7/13 a their faculty meeting. Peggy Biga will prepare a short list of important PTA events et al., to pass out to teachers and parents.
Dr. Curry gave an update on working with Jones Valley Teaching Farm, AES building repair and needs, and the ongoing search for an AES librarian.
